Some Props

I've been continuing to work on the lab scene. Slowly but surely it's moving along. Here's a couple images of some of the high poly props I've been doing.

They are not uber detailed (and not supposed to be). Most of them are in the background, and not close to the camera. So I am doing mostly silhouette and bigger detail on the high poly models, then doing the rest in photoshop/crazybump. I'm trying to get this scene done asap because there are other things I want to move on to, but want to finish this first. Anyway, here they are. Nothing spectacular, but something to look at as I update the scene. Hopefully will have an actual scene update in the next week or so.

Scientist Lab (Art Challenge)

I am currently working on an art challenge that's going on over at Manning's forum ( www.staticcurve.com/forum ). I finished out the rough model last night, so I thought I would post how it's coming along. Will also update the blog with WIPs hopefully once a week or so.

The web design has slowed down a lot. I have a base tempelate up, but still need to iron out a lot of little things. I am hoping to get that up over Christmas break and have it full steam ahead. I also hope that I can finish the lab scene during that time as well. Going to be a busy Christmas break :)

New Job

Last month I made the difficult decision to leave Gearbox Software, and pursue a great opportunity with Ensemble Studios. I made a lot of friends at Gearbox (some of them are now with me at Ensemble) and I learned a lot. I wish the teams at Gearbox best of luck on releasing their projects, especially Borderlands. There is a lot of talent at that studio, and I know they'll make some great games.

Anyway, I am having my actual site redesigned now. And I look forward to putting it up hopefully before Christmas. I've decided to do some new pieces, touch up (or redo) a lot of work on some of my old work, and get that all uploaded. Should be a lot of fun.

Also, Kevin Manning has started up a new art forum that I am going to try to be really active in. Still some stuff being kinked out, so I will post the link to it soon. But the hope is to get quite a few professionals in there, to not only critique eachother's work, but any other artist who wishes to have some critiques done.

Anyway, that will happen all soon.

Recent Piece

This is a recent piece I had been working on for a couple weeks in my spare time. Thought I would share it.

High Poly (Max Only)

Left: Mudbox pass. Right: Low poly with texture, screengrab in UE3. (NOTE* I intentionally exaggerated the spec/brass color on this). Also, I would like to point out this is not my concept, but a concept used for Epic's Gears of War.

In other news, I am going to slowly work on my website again, and get it back up. When that's done, the blog will be back to just posting WIPs, and my site will be an actual gallery. So stay tuned. I am also texturing the sci-fi door, and plan to do an entire scene relatively soon in UE3.

Borderlands stuff

Gearbox Software and 2K games recently announced Borderlands for XBOX 360, PS3, and PC. I am currently working on this title. It is also this month's cover story for Game Informer.

Also while surfing around on some forums I found this screenshot. The huge digger/excavator equipment was a piece I did shortly after I started on the project.

Environments (Scenes)

Various environment scenes I put together. Modeling, Texturing, and lighting were done by me.

Corner deli shop

~10,000 Triangles

Subway Bathroom

~14,000 Triangles

Props

Various props I've made. Some where created for scenes, while others were just stand alone.

The door is a wip, the above is just the low poly + normal.

High Poly Modeling *UPDATED 9/9/07*

Random High Poly models that I've created for one reason or another. Most of the time it's to generate normal maps & ambient occlusion. Most of the high poly models I have to show right now are fairly old. Hoping to get some more recent pieces up soon.
*Update* Added a scifi type door to the high poly list. Already have the low poly modeled, unwrapped, and baked, should be textured relatively soon.

Spas-12

Did this over the course of a weekend. It was off & on, probably between 10-12 hours.

Mac-10

This was done about a year ago, only the 2nd time I had done any high poly modeling.

WWII Thompson SMG

This was my first real attempt at high poly modeling. Did it as an art test over a year ago.

Security Door

Started this a couple weeks ago. Just drew out a simple sci-fi security door. Could lead to an entire scene some day. Who knows.

WWII Radio

Did this about 6 months ago. Again, at this point, really hadn't done much high poly modeling.

Barrel

A barrel I made for a prop (see the red barrels in the prop section). Made the base in 3DS Max and did the dents and irregularities in Mudbox.

Low Poly Weapons

A couple of low poly weapons I made. Both of these are pretty old, but hoping to add some more recent ones relatively soon.

First Post

Everyone seems to be having a blog lately, seemed like a good place to do WIPs of my work until I post them on my website. Will be posting new stuff soon.
